The section Mine Technical Service in Aitik consists of teams specialized in Geology, Mine surveying, Mine planning, Drill and Blast technology, Geotechnology and Geohydrology and Production technology. We work to create conditions for efficient production and the work is carried out in close collaboration with other sections and departments.
Your Opportunity
As a Senior Mine Geologist, you will be working closely with several teams such as exploration, mine planning, mineral resources and project evaluation. You will contribute to developing the mine geology team and work actively with improvement projects and development questions.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Plan, initiate and coordinate infill drilling
Drill core logging and interpretation of geological data
Develop and maintain the QAQC routines for the geological database
Update the mineralization models with new geological data
Update the production models and reconcile the results
Identify and evaluate potential risks in the production plans related to geological information
Maintain and develop the current working methods, SOPs and processes
Work in close collaboration with the related departments and support development work
Identify, initiate and lead development projects and participate in current projects.
Training and mentoring Junior Mine Geologist
Support other departments in the mine with their geology related work

What you bring
We are looking for you who have a geoscience degree with postgraduate qualification and with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the mining industry, specifically working as a Mine Geologist in open pit mining operations.
Previous experience in base metal mining is meritorious and knowledge of Deswik or an equivalent mine design and scheduling software is an advantage. You have previous experience in drillhole planning, drill core logging and modelling geology in 3D.

About the role

We are currently seeking a geologist to join our near-mine exploration group in Malmberget. As part of our team, you will collaborate closely with other geologists and technicians in a dynamic workplace, offering challenging tasks and excellent opportunities for professional growth.

The near-mine exploration department is responsible for, among other things:

• Planning and supervising diamond drilling in and around the mine areas
• Core logging and sampling
• Interpretation of geological data
• 3D modeling in Leapfrog
• QAQC and validation of drill hole data

The position is permanent, but there may also be opportunities for short-term contracts. You will be based in the town of Gällivare, near the mining operations, located in Swedish Lapland above the Arctic Circle. The area offers fantastic opportunities for outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, skiing, ice climbing, and more.

This is what you bring with you

We are looking for geologists with 1-3 years of experience in exploration, mining, or project development.

A minimum of a B.Sc. degree in geology is required.

Knowledge of common software, such as Leapfrog, is an advantage.

You should be responsible, driven, and also perceptive and adaptable. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a collaborative environment and has strong analytical skills. The ability to thrive in a dynamic workplace, where tasks and workflows may evolve, is important.

The position involves extensive collaboration both within and outside the company, so strong interpersonal skills are essential.

Fluency in spoken and written English is required. While knowledge of Swedish is a plus, if you don’t already speak it, we expect you to be eager to learn.

A valid driver's license is required for the position.

Sektionen Gruvteknik ansvarar bland annat för Aitiks brytningsplanering, gruvkartor, geologi samt produktionsnära teknik- och utvecklingsfrågor. Vi arbetar med att skapa förutsättningar för en effektiv produktion och arbetet utförs i nära samarbete med andra sektioner. Arbetsuppgifter
I rollen som Geolog kommer du att arbeta med gruvgeologi inom Aitik i nära samarbete med prospektering, gruvplanering och malmbasavdelningen. Du ingår i teamet gruvgeologi och arbetar aktivt med förbättringsarbete och utvecklingsfrågor.

Utbildning/erfarenhet
Vi söker dig som har universitetsexamen inom geologi med flera års erfarenhet från gruvgeologi eller liknande. Du har tidigare erfarenheter från planering av diamantborrhål och kartering. Du har erfarenhet av 3D-modellering och vana att använda CAD program.
Arbetet förutsätter goda kunskaper inom det svenska språket eller viljan att lära dig samt kunna behärska engelska språket i tal och skrift. Körkort B är ett krav.

Gruvplaneringen på LKAB i Malmberget söker en driftsgeolog för underjords- och kärnkartering. Allt större krav på kunskap om bergmassans egenskaper gör att vi har behov av geologer med erfarenhet av bergarts- och strukturgeologisk kartering. Utöver kartering kan det bli möjligt att arbeta med geologisk tolkning och deltagande i projektarbeten. Du kommer att arbeta i ett litet sammansvetsat gäng där kraven på samarbetsförmåga, ansvarstagande och noggrannhet är stora. Ensamarbete förekommer och du arbetar i nära samarbete med våra gruvgeologer och bergmekaniker. Utbildningar kan arrangeras vid behov, LKAB har även ett brett utbud av interna utbildningar. Du kommer bland annat att arbeta med Deswik (CAD för underjordskartering) och acQuire (databas och kärnkarteringsmjukvara), därför är tidigare erfarenheter av dessa programvaror meriterande.

Vi söker dig som har universitetsutbildning med lägst kandidatexamen i geologi, alternativt ingenjörsgeolog eller motsvarande. Vi ser gärna nyutexaminerade geologer som sökande till tjänsten. Du ska behärska svenska och engelska i både tal och skrift. Arbete inom gruva är meriterande.

As LKAB is mining at even greater depths our workplace assignment has extended. Hence, our team needs to expand with another mine geologist; to meet today's demands and tomorrow's needs in a dynamic industry undergoing a big change. For our close-knit team in Malmberget, we are looking for you who will initially work with a focus on drill planning and modelling. LKAB has taken the lead in the transition towards a sustainable future, and one of our main assignments is the responsibility of the mineral reserve, which is of great importance for the future of our mine. Our workplace is also undergoing changes to new systems, models and working methods. With new and more precise tools, follows higher demands on data reliability and QAQC. Depending on your qualifications, your role will be designed together with the other geologist in the team, and you will have the opportunity to influence the distribution of tasks and areas of responsibility. Our objective is further development of the workplace, where an important part is to maintain attractive, stimulating, and developing roles. Your main work will be done in Deswik (CAD), acQuire and Leapfrog. Experience of reconciliation and basic knowledge in resource geology are meritorious.
As a mining geologist, you will work with drill planning, monitoring drilling, modelling, and data follow-up. You will be a strategic resource for the mine where cooperation with other groups in the mine is an important part of the work, therefore we place high value on good communication and cooperation skills. You will have your own areas of responsibility; therefore, we also place high value on the fact that you are a responsible and problem-solving person. Together with your closest colleagues, you will work with the development of the mines geological work and contribute to the business's objectives. The tasks may include some underground mapping and mapping of drill cores. Together with our mine geologists, you will have special responsibility for the mine's models. The Exploration department has been in an expansive phase the last couple of years with responsibilities in exploration in our underground mines and open pits and their close surroundings in Malmberget, Kiruna and Svappavaara, as well as green field exploration and resource estimation.

As a Senior Exploration Geologist in the Specialist Team you will be able to work independently, perform complex duties and work strategically and active monitoring of external environment. You can manage large projects and project leading might occur. You will, independently, support the near mine and field exploration with different tasks in a combination of areas within exploration. Oversee routines or improvements as well as mentoring other geologists. Conduct peer reviews and quality reviews.

In the role you will also participate in exploration program planning to ensure that programs are designed considering alternative options, costs, target rankings and are in line with our strategy.

You will be based in Kiruna or Malmberget, close to the mining operation and city of Kiruna / Gällivare, situated in Swedish Lapland above the Arctic Circle. Skills & Competencies

We are looking for a Senior Exploration Geologist with at least B.Sc with relevant extensive experience within exploration, mining or project development.

Strong understanding of the mineral exploration process and best practices in both greenfields and near-mine environments. Comprehensive understanding of field projects and good understanding of geophysical methods and interpretation and its application within exploration.  

Knowledge of common software such as Leapfrog is a plus.

As a person you should be responsible and driven, but also percipient and flexible. The position includes a lot of collaboration with others both within and outside the company, so good collaboration and communication skills are essential. You should have a genuine interest of mentoring and helping people grow and you are happy to share your knowledge with others.

Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities.

A Driving license is a requirement for the position.

You speak and write English fluently. It´s a plus if you speak and write Swedish, but if not, we want you to be eager to learn.

LKAB is developing deeper, future mines on its world class Iron Oxide Apatite (IOA) ore bodies. For the future mines’ projects, LKAB:s R&D department is responsible for collecting and modelling geotechnical datasets across LKAB:s geo assets.

To support these sites, a new role of QAQC geologist is to be formed, working closely with LKAB:s permanent geotechnical geologists, LKAB database, consulting companies, and contracted logging companies.

About the position

The role crosses departments, from exploration to operations, and will involve setting up and implementing best practice protocols in the assessment and development of QAQC procedures.

When assessing QAQC data, you will use AcQuire GIM Suite, Leapfrog Geo, Reflex IQ logger tool, Imago, and MS office.

Specific tasks include:
geotechnical data assessment, validation, and QAQC.
coordinate QAQC data flow, communicate tasks and results to stakeholders.
develop feedback pathways to contractors and ensure the geotechnical data quality.
oversight of logging routine protocols to contractor and in-house stakeholders.
Feedback from third party audit findings and QAQC results into logging improvements.
contribute to monthly reports.


General tasks may include:
Additional project involvement may be required due to operational priorities.
Leapfrog QAQC project management, editing, and modelling.
Additional tasks as required.


This position is based in Gällivare but we are also looking for QAQC Geologist in Kiruna, see separate job ad.

Qualifications

To apply for this position, you should have the following experience: one or two degrees in geological related field, proven programming skills, basic skills, reporting, working with large datasets, and geotechnical logging experience of at least one year.

In addition, a working knowledge of rock mass classification systems is essential, excellent communication skills, and well-developed social skills. LKAB is looking for the next generation of geoscientists who are driven with a passion for advancing projects and who can handle multiple data analysis tasks.

You are encouraged to have a well-developed ability to cooperate and adhere to LKAB:s code of conduct. A systematic, structured, and self-motivated attitude is required for this role.

To express yourself well in written and spoken English and/or Swedish is essential.

Driving license B is a requirement for all positions at LKAB.
